I hope they noticed it; it made a difference to me to see this regular reminder of his wisdom.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mindbase.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Eternitys-Sunrise-120x120.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"456\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1998\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mindbase.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Eternitys-Sunrise-240x114.jpg 240w, https:\/\/mindbase.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Eternitys-Sunrise-768x365.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mindbase.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Eternitys-Sunrise.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><br \/>\nHis first two lines also always came to mind (in this gender-neutral form), the whole verse a succinct and poetic teaching on attachment and letting go:<br \/>\n<em>One who binds to themself a joy<br \/>\nDoes the wing\u00e9d life destroy.<br \/>\nBut one who kisses the joy as it flies<br \/>\nLives in eternity&#8217;s sunrise. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>And this would lead me to contemplating another verse of Blake&#8217;s:<br \/>\n<em>We are made for joy and woe,<br \/>\nAnd when this we rightly know,<br \/>\nThrough the world we safely go.<br \/>\nJoy and woe are woven fine,<br \/>\nA clothing for the soul divine.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That &#8216;rightly&#8217; understanding our human nature in this way leads to a deep sense of safety or security seems to me another sublime practice in itself &#8230;  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For a while earlier this year the fencing around the fire-damaged buildings on Cathedral Green necessitated people to walk over this quote from William Blake, engraved into the paving.
